Dynaudio Introduces Focus 110 A Active Loudspeaker

According to a press release, following the success of its MC 15 high-end multimedia desktop speaker (reviewed in Playback issue 2), Danish hi-fi manufacturer Dynaudio is introducing another compact active loudspeaker, the Focus 110 A. The speaker, which the press release says is “the most versatile Dynaudio loudspeaker ever made,” is optimized for normal rooms and audiophile applications, unlike the MC 15, which is optimized for near-field use (i.e., desktop use).

The release says that the Focus 110 A features a coated soft-dome tweeter and a MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) mid/bass driver. Each speaker incorporates two 50-watt amplifiers—one to power the mid/bass driver and one to power the tweeter—for a total (stereo) system power of 200 watts. Dynaudio specifically tailored the drive units and amplifiers to complement one another and provide the best possible performance.

The release continues by saying that the Focus 110 A is extremely versatile. The speakers can be paired with a stereo preamp or an integrated amp with pre-outs or can be used with only a source component such as a CD player, iPod, or music server. Additionally, the speakers can be used in a surround sound system or in a distributed audio system zone.

The release adds that the speakers are available in four natural wood finishes: maple, cherry, rosewood, and black ash. Starting in April 2009, they will also be available in high gloss black or white lacquer finishes.

Pricing: $2,450/pair
