Digeo Interactive’s Moxi HD DVR Available on Amazon

Industry watchers have considered Digeo Interactive all but dead in the DVR market given the company’s move around the time of last year’s Consumer Electronics Show to dismiss half of its staff and cease development on several DVR products destined for retail sales. So it might come as a surprise to find the Moxi HD DVR available for sale on Amazon.com (at a hefty $800). One industry Internet site that spoke with Digeo’s PR firm says the company is calling this a “soft launch,” meaning that a limited number of products will be available (through Amazon only) to see how the product fares.

So what is the Moxi HD DVR? Product specs are still available on Moxi’s Web site, but in brief, the product combines the features of a high-definition digital-video recorder, with a music jukebox, photo display, and some limited Arcade gaming capabilities. The product’s 500GB hard drive provides about 75 hours of 1080i full-resolution HD recording or about 300 hours of standard definition recording. TV shows can be recorded from one channel while watching another.

The product was originally designed to accept 2 terabytes of expanded storage, but the limited launch on Amazon makes no mention of expandability.
