Create a Network Using Home Electrical Wiring

Fountain Valley, CA-based D-Link Corp. is shipping its new PowerLine HD Ethernet Adapter Starter Kit, the DHP-303, to allow you to use your home electrical system to set up a simple home network and connect devices such as TiVO and Slingbox, as well as Ethernet-enabled computers and gaming consoles, such as the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, or Nintendo’s Wii, to your network.

You need at least two PowerLine wall plugs/adapters, both included in the MSRP $140 starter kit, to create a network. Each adapter should be plugged directly into a wall socket on the same circuit in your home (avoid going through power-surge outlets). Other devices added to your network need their own adapters.

To activate the network on these plug-and-play devices, you need merely press a button on each adapter.

Features include:
•    Up to 200Mbps throughput
•    QoS (quality of service) support helps prioritize Internet traffic
•    Extends wireless LAN by connecting an access point
•    Supports enhanced network security
•    Simple push-button security
•    LED for easy monitoring
•    Shows up in Windows Vista “network map” locator
